Ah, winter. Time for holidays and celebrating — and the temptation of rich food. But a wintry date with your significant other doesn’t have to mean a huge dinner followed by a food-induced coma. Central Ohio has plenty of romantic cold-weather activities to keep you and your honey hopping all season long.
Romance on Ice
Columbus has no shortage of ice skating rinks — from the OhioHealth Ice Haus at Nationwide Arena (where the Columbus Blue Jackets practice) to locations in Dublin, Easton and Lewis Center. So, lace up your skates and race around the rink with your date. Bonus: In addition to burning some calories on the ice, you can score some Instagram-worthy pictures with your SO.
Hit the Slopes
What better way to bond with your beau than on the ski lift? Mad River Mountain has lots of options for skiing and snow tubing, and it’s only about an hour’s drive from downtown Columbus.
Go for a Hike
Central Ohio has plenty of beautiful hiking trails — and they’re open year-round. Plus, the Metro Parks system offers guided winter hikes for all fitness levels. Whether you want to stroll through the woods for a mile or pick up the pace for 5 miles, you can see the beauty of nature in winter — and hold your honey’s hand.
Day at the Museum
Get artsy with a trip to the Columbus Museum of Art or the Wexner Center for the Arts, or check out the galleries in the Short North Arts District for Gallery Hop on the first Saturday of the month. Bonus: Log some steps as you see the latest creative endeavors around town.
Strike a Pose
Stave off the winter stress with your date as you work through downward-facing dogs, warrior poses and maybe even headstands. Namaste.
